Players and monsters can deal a glancing blow on attacks that would otherwise miss that had a high natural roll. Glancing blows deal less damage than a normal hit.

Players can deal a glancing blow on any missed weapon attack with a natural roll of 10 to 19. Monsters also have a glancing blow range which varies from monster to monster. Typically, the glancing blow range for monsters is smaller than that of players, and grows with the difficulty of the current quest. Glancing blows deal unmodified weapon damage. At higher levels against targets with significant damage reduction, glancing blows may often deal no damage at all.
